The tectonic evolution of the study area is characterized by a Pliocene-Pleistocene extensional tectonics. This is following to the compressive phase that had partially affected the Middle Miocene basins. The Pliocene-Pleistocene extension is responsible of the recent structural style and morphological characters. Nevertheless extensional tectonics has not been continuous, but alternated by compressive or transpressive events. During this phases normal fault reactivation produce reverse faults or flower structures.

Abstract

The tectonic evolution of the study area is characterized by a Pliocene-Pleistocene extensional tectonics. This is following to the compressive phase that had partially affected the Middle Miocene basins. The Pliocene-Pleistocene extension is responsible of the recent structural style and morphological characters. Nevertheless extensional tectonics has not been continuous, but alternated by compressive or transpressive events. During this phases normal fault reactivation produce reverse faults or flower structures.
