The aim of this paper is to explore the distinctive features of an emergent organizational form within the systems of SMEs, namely the network orchestrator. This form reflects an entrepreneurial strategy pursued by micro-companies which show a special ability in designing and organizing flexible, broad and sometimes very complex networks of partners and then to pull them together around a credible business idea. We identified through qualitative analysis the basic characteristics of these network organizations, classifying them in terms of network geographical structure, power structure, design and maintenance activities, core internal capabilities. Findings of the qualitative study form the basis for future research on the phenomenon.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to explore the distinctive features of an emergent organizational form within the systems of SMEs, namely the network orchestrator. This form reflects an entrepreneurial strategy pursued by micro-companies which show a special ability in designing and organizing flexible, broad and sometimes very complex networks of partners and then to pull them together around a credible business idea. We identified through qualitative analysis the basic characteristics of these network organizations, classifying them in terms of network geographical structure, power structure, design and maintenance activities, core internal capabilities. Findings of the qualitative study form the basis for future research on the phenomenon.Pubblicazioni consigliate
