In this paper, the stability of a family of of the BSRA trawler series is investigated in the light of existing stability criteria, as well as the Energy-balance method recently proposed by Strathclyde University. It results that the IMO General criterion is less restrictive than IMO Weather criterion and both fall into a region of approximately 20-30% of net-area positive according to the Energy-balance method. An analysis of the threshold for the onset of parametric rolling in a following sea reveals the extreme sensitivity of this vessel typology to such a particular capsizing mechanism.

Abstract
In this paper, the stability of a family of of the BSRA trawler series is investigated in the light of existing stability criteria, as well as the Energy-balance method recently proposed by Strathclyde University. It results that the IMO General criterion is less restrictive than IMO Weather criterion and both fall into a region of approximately 20-30% of net-area positive according to the Energy-balance method. An analysis of the threshold for the onset of parametric rolling in a following sea reveals the extreme sensitivity of this vessel typology to such a particular capsizing mechanism.File in questo prodotto:
