Abstract
In this work, the roll motion of a ship with free surface liquids is investigated. A mathematical model that solves the roll motion equation in conjunction with the RANSE for the liquid sloshing has been developed. Experimental tests have been carried out in order to validate the mathematical model. It has been observed that computed roll angles agree satisfactorily with experimental data in the whole range of wave frequencies investigated. Moreover, a detailed analysis of the numerical results has allowed to investigate the effective coupling between the roll restoring moment of the ship and the sloshing induced moments. Finally, some comments are reported on the influence of the roll damping on the roll motion of the ship with liquids on board.Pubblicazioni consigliate
