The paper focuses on the dynamic buckling behavior of glass columns under impulsive pressures (e.g. blast) and uniaxial compressive loads. Parametric analytical calculations are performed by means of analytical formulations of classical theory of dynamics (SDOF approach). Nonlinear simulations are also carried-out on 3D numerical models able to take into account the dynamic interaction between the applied loads and the possible brittle cracking of glass. Rather good correlation is generally found between them. Finally, an analytical approach is proposed for a rational estimation of the effective dynamic buckling strength of glass columns under impulsive pressures.

Abstract
The paper focuses on the dynamic buckling behavior of glass columns under impulsive pressures (e.g. blast) and uniaxial compressive loads. Parametric analytical calculations are performed by means of analytical formulations of classical theory of dynamics (SDOF approach). Nonlinear simulations are also carried-out on 3D numerical models able to take into account the dynamic interaction between the applied loads and the possible brittle cracking of glass. Rather good correlation is generally found between them. Finally, an analytical approach is proposed for a rational estimation of the effective dynamic buckling strength of glass columns under impulsive pressures.Pubblicazioni consigliate
