To determine the rope pull of atug, the hydrodynamic resistance on the towline, and the maximum attainable speed of the convoy, a mathematical model of the complete towing system has been implemented. The modelincludes the tug, barge, and towline characteristics, as well as a description of the weather conditions and hydrographic restrictions (water depth in operative aquatorium) where the convoy can operate. Details of the theory and the methodadopted for predicting the dynamic loads due to storms are presented below.
