This paper specifies a model based Decision Support System (DSS) offering different services and aiming to integrate logistics management and decision support for multimodal transportation systems. The proposed DSS is devoted to manage logistics networks in order to synchronize different transportation means by using the modern Information and Communications Technology tools and by taking into account environmental aspects. In order to analyze the advantages of the proposed DSS application, we specify the Multimodal Cargo Service for the case study of the logistics network of the Trieste port (Italy) including the port, the intermodal terminal and the highway connecting them. Moreover, a description of the multimodal management policies of the trucks arriving to the port is presented and evaluated by a simulation study. © 2015 IEEE.
