In the framework of electric propulsion of waterborne vessels, the selection of the best-preferred energy storage system based on batteries, in terms of gravimetric/volumetric energy density and modularity can lead to a cost-saving and reliable design. In this context, an overlook of some commercial Li-based batteries for water transportation is presented. Furthermore, a ranking process based on a Multi- Attribute Decision Making (MADM) method is applied to support the selection of the best alternative, considering a set of technical attributes along with their weights of importance.

Abstract

In the framework of electric propulsion of waterborne vessels, the selection of the best-preferred energy storage system based on batteries, in terms of gravimetric/volumetric energy density and modularity can lead to a cost-saving and reliable design. In this context, an overlook of some commercial Li-based batteries for water transportation is presented. Furthermore, a ranking process based on a Multi- Attribute Decision Making (MADM) method is applied to support the selection of the best alternative, considering a set of technical attributes along with their weights of importance.
