Abstract

Between 1791 and 1792 the Republic of Venice placed 100 markers to define the lagoon boundary once and for all. Yet the borders of Venice, the borders of its lagoon are by their very nature unstable and subject to continuous negotiations. The lagoon that the Serenissima considered and wanted to keep eternal is now threatened, while the markers are still in a crucial position to read the contemporary and future phenomena that have affected and will affect Venice.
