The Interim guidelines on the second generation intact stability criteria (MSC.1/Circ.1627) allow embedding so-called “operational limitations”. The introduction of operational limitations is based on the specification of alternative environmental conditions, which then reflect in a corresponding modification of the calculation parameters of the criteria. Information is available for implementing operational limitations for most of the failure modes and levels of assessment. However, this is not the case for the level 1 vulnerability criterion for the dead ship condition. The paper therefore investigates the development of a rational simple procedure to contribute filling this gap. An example application is also provided.

Abstract
The Interim guidelines on the second generation intact stability criteria (MSC.1/Circ.1627) allow embedding so-called “operational limitations”. The introduction of operational limitations is based on the specification of alternative environmental conditions, which then reflect in a corresponding modification of the calculation parameters of the criteria. Information is available for implementing operational limitations for most of the failure modes and levels of assessment. However, this is not the case for the level 1 vulnerability criterion for the dead ship condition. The paper therefore investigates the development of a rational simple procedure to contribute filling this gap. An example application is also provided.Pubblicazioni consigliate
