Study of earthquake source characteristics is essential in seismology. Seismic moment (M₀) is one of the most important seismic source related parameters. This study aimed to find an empirical relation between S-wave peak displacement and seismic moment specific for Northeastern Italy. The parameters of this relation represent attenuation characteristics of the region. In order to achieve the goal, a ω² Brune source [1] model was fitted to the low-frequency portion of the seismic source spectrum and an overdetermined linear system of equations solved by employing Generalized Inversion Technique (GIT).

Abstract
