To obtain reliable direct stability assessment results, the wave field shall be properly generated. Typically, the wave field generation is based on the superposition of different harmonic components, with frequencies and amplitudes linked to a discretization of the wave spectrum. In this context, the paper presents a comparison of different wave generation approaches, looking at the associated autocorrelation function of wave elevation defined in ensemble domain. Attention is given to the possible occurrence of spurious long-time autocorrelations, which can be associated to the occurrence of exact or approximate self-repetitions of the generated wave field.

Abstract
To obtain reliable direct stability assessment results, the wave field shall be properly generated. Typically, the wave field generation is based on the superposition of different harmonic components, with frequencies and amplitudes linked to a discretization of the wave spectrum. In this context, the paper presents a comparison of different wave generation approaches, looking at the associated autocorrelation function of wave elevation defined in ensemble domain. Attention is given to the possible occurrence of spurious long-time autocorrelations, which can be associated to the occurrence of exact or approximate self-repetitions of the generated wave field.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
