It reappraises the theme of sanctuaries and territories in Hellenistic and Early Roman Asia Minor, focusing on the history of the Lydian sanctuary intituled to Apollon Pleurenos and the role of the priest family with a longue durée approach (Seleucid, Attalid, Roman) and and in a cross-cultural perspective. The article points out the continuing of the religious system in ancient Anatolia, but also its insertion in the general territorial control theorized and applied by the following rulers.
