In this paper, the problem of the rolling motion of a ship with liquids on board has been investigated. Static, dynamic and hydrodynamic approaches are described, highlighting their own advantages and limits. In particular, the latter, which deals with the real behaviour of the shipped liquid, is applied. A good agreement is obtained by comparison between numerical results and experimental data. Some comments are made on the dynamic coupling between ship motion and liquid motion.

Abstract
