An approximate analytical solution of the rolling motion equation is obtained by means of a perturbation method. The analysis shows that the presenc of deviations from linearity in the mathematical model describing rolling motion of a ship can greatly influence the statistical distribution of the response to a given excitation, particularly when narrow band excitation is considered.

Abstract

An approximate analytical solution of the rolling motion equation is obtained by means of a perturbation method.
