In the Hellenistic period the archival behaviour of the Greek poleis experienced an important increase, out of need for negotiating relationship with the Roman power and keeping the related documents. The essay focuses on some of the diverse categories of records generate by the Roman autority and on their locations in the city archives, along with the related internal files and throughout the resultant chains of documents: letters, treaties, senatusconsulta, laws are investigated along with the city records. A last topic is the common behoof for the historical players to mantain the documents of a long-standing administrative relationship in the concerned area, as a legitimate precedent for the following governors.
