The paramount voltage stability requirement may be difficult to accomplish in Medium-Voltage DC (MVDC) power systems supplying Constant Power Loads. Focusing on the importance in complying with such a requirement (because instability triggers ship blackout), the aim of the paper is to design the Active Damping voltage control of two MVDC power systems, where the interface role is covered either by Thyristor Converters (TCs) or by DC-DC converters (DCs). Although most scientific papers propose DCs as the best solution, a voltage dynamics comparison will demonstrate how it is possible to assure voltage stability also with a mature technology like TCs.
