The study examines the cross-lingual concept of economic migrant. The discursive fixing of the meaning is explored starting from the questions of how the German compounds Wirtschaftsflüchtling and Wirtschaftsmigrant are introduced and used in the political discourse and how the variation from a neutral term to an axiologically and/or ideologically connotated expression with dysphemic function is perceived or reproduced in the translators metalinguistic discourse.
