The volume edited by Dörte Andres, Klaus Kaindl and Ingrid Kurz is a collection of papers on interpreters working in totalitarian systems, during the second World War and/or in the field of diplomacy. Each of the thirteen chapters analyzes the autobiographical writings of an interpreter within this historical framework. They are conceived mainly in the form of memoirs, i.e as the narration of a certain period of one’s life against the background of an historical event.
