In this chapter, we discuss in detail the role played and the opportunities offered by the amino group within those areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology concerning the development of carbon‐based and hybrid organic–inorganic nanomaterials. Within the above‐mentioned families, amino functionalities have been widely used to design and produce novel and smart nanomaterials. These valuable functional groups act as keys not only in the synthesis or processing of nanomaterials but also in their functionalization. Herein, we discuss the most relevant preparation and/or functionalization procedures and synthetic methodologies employed to install amino groups onto nanomaterial surfaces. Moreover, the amino functionalities provide a way for the fine‐tuning of nanomaterial properties, thus playing a pivotal role to unlock numerous practical applications mainly in the fields of biology, medicine, sensor development, and energy production, and these aspects will also be critically discussed.

Abstract
Moreover, the amino functionalities provide a way for the fine‐tuning of nanomaterial properties, thus playing a pivotal role to unlock numerous practical applications mainly in the fields of biology, medicine, sensor development, and energy production, and these aspects will also be critically discussed.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
