Editors' Introduction of the volume "Law, Language and the Courtroom. Legal Linguistics and the Discourse of Judges". With a view to offering a comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of judicial discourse from different research perspectives, we have arranged the contributions around four major themes reflecting what we believe are the most central issues in the field: constructing judicial discourse and judicial identities (Part I), judicial argumentation and evaluative language (Part II), judicial interpretation (Part III) and clarity in judicial discourse (Part IV).
