O življenju in delu Štefana Barbariča

In this chapter, based on historical and literary sources, we outline the life and professional activity of Štefan Barbarič, an important Slovene scholar and literary historian who has marked the venerable institution of Slovenska matica for almost a decade as its secretary and editor. This analysis of all the stations of Barbarič's sometimes complicated life and career path shows that dr. Štefan Barbarič is an extremely important figure for the literary history and scientific and cultural life of Slovenia and the wider South Slavic and Slavic area. He enriched this with his immense devotion to books, and as a native of Prekmurje he brought a special sensibility to the contact of different cultures and literatures.
