The traditional linkage between Parkinson's disease (PD) and simple motor alterations has been challenged, mainly due to the widespread anatomical relationship between basal ganglia, substantia nigra (the center of PD) and the cerebral cortex and cerebellum. These connections, organized into discrete anatomical loops, control different cerebral regions, involved in motor sequence, but also in behaviour and even in higher-functions, mainly behaviour, execution, planning and resolution of problems. The aim of this book would be to identify and deeply discuss the role of basal ganglia network in PD, and detect its effect in clinical practice.
