The aim of this paper is to share some thoughts – arising from reading Jacques Derrida’s Séminaire on hospitality – on the question of how to translate in French Kant’s “Hospitalität (Wirthbarkeit)” from his work Zum ewigen Frieden: Ein philosophischer Entwurf. This paper is meant to be an opportunity to stimulate a reflection on hospitality as a contemporary issue, the continuous and fascinating work of translation, and the relationship between hospitality and translation.
