Abstract
Galla Placidia founded the church of Santa Croce in Ravenna and provided it with a floor of great quality and value. It consisted of a series of rectangular panels decorated with black and white tiles, following a custom well documented in the western part of the Empire during the 5th century and beyond. This production continued for a long time, with a gradual reduction in the variety of the decorative repertoire. Instead, the side porticoes were paved with polychrome mosaics, with the exception of the entrances to the arms of the cruciform building, which were paved with black and white marble tiles.File in questo prodotto:
