A good life, for Judith Butler, cannot be separated from the relationship with others, but also from resistance to a bad life. Resistance consists in opposing the differential distribution of the value of life and in trying to create conditions in which human interdependence and vulnerability become livable. The paper addresses various conditions under which vulnerability and interdependence become unbearable, depending on the role that architecture also assigns to bodies and determines their right to be present in public and private spaces.

Abstract

A good life, for Judith Butler, cannot be separated from the relationship with others, but also from resistance to a bad life. Resistance consists in opposing the differential distribution of the value of life and in trying to create conditions in which human interdependence and vulnerability become livable. The paper addresses various conditions under which vulnerability and interdependence become unbearable, depending on the role that architecture also assigns to bodies and determines their right to be present in public and private spaces.
