The Campagnuzza area in Gorizia, examined through a teaching-based research project within the Architecture and Interior Design studios at the University of Trieste, is characterised by various forms of temporary and disadvantaged dwelling – from post-war refugees to migrants along the Balkan route, as well as people facing housing emergencies or living with disabilities. Through mapping and critical redesign of local spaces, students explored design as a tool for knowledge. By relating multiple conditions of housing fragility, the adoption of an intersectional approach prompted critical reflections on modes of dwelling and on the social responsibility of architectural design.
