Information Asymmetries and Power Dynamics in the Digitalization of the Third Sector

The chapter presents the findings of a qualitative case study conducted within the project “Dalla digitalizzazione all’innovazione nei servizi alla persona erogati dagli enti del Terzo Settore. L’esperienza di Federsolidarietà Friuli Venezia Giulia” promoted by the Department of Humanistic Studies of the University of Trieste, funded by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region under Regional Law 34/2015, and implemented in partnership with Confcooperative FVG-Federsolidarietà. The aim of the case study was to explore the approaches, expectations, concerns, and strategies through which these organizations are addressing digitalization. Drawing on a sociotechnical perspective on digital technologies and an institutionalist approach to organizational analysis, the study highlights the dynamics triggered by differences in power, technological knowledge, and capacities for the use of digital devices among the various actors involved
