Substrat araméen dans la nomenclature des outils agricoles à Sarʿīn et-taḥta (Liban)

The aim of this article is to investigate what has survived of the Aramaic language in my native Lebanese variety, specifically that of Sarʿīn et-Taḥta, which lies, as the crow flies, almost forty kilometres from the Syrian villages of Maʿlūla, Baḫʿa, and Jubb-ʿAddīn, where Western Neo-Aramaic is still spoken. Between 2011 and 2015, I interviewed almost fifty villagers and recorded their speech. For the purposes of this paper, I have selected only the interviews with fourteen informants who, at the time, were eighty years old or older and had used only traditional agricultural tools. I have also provided illustrations of all thirty-one tools mentioned in their terminology and consulted numerous dictionaries and ethnolinguistic sources in order to assess their possible Aramaic etymologies.
