Abstract
ENG: Jan Gehl’s human-centred methodology, grounded in direct observation of public space use, is one of the most radical yet operationally significant approaches in contemporary urban planning. Since Life Between Buildings (1971), Gehl has challenged post-war modernist models by bridging architecture and social sciences. Today, the fields of application of this methodology range from analytical tools to master plans and design strategies. Building on insights from Jonna Ekholm, Lead Urban Strategist at Gehl’s Copenhagen office, the interview explores the use of this approach in fragile urban contexts and medium-sized cities, with particular attention to the issues of spatial, social, and environmental justice.
