Genetic investigations of reproductive lineages of marble trout, Salmo [trutta] marmoratus Cuvier,1817, Isonzo and Tagliamentostrains for their management and conservation - In this study we present the results of a genetic investigation of reproductivelineages of marble trout strains from the Friuli Venezia Giulia main river basins (Isonzo and Tagliamento) by using a restriction analysis(RFLP) on mtDNA control region and nuclear LDH-C1* gene amplicons. These combined analyses give a clearer result on which strainthe fish belong to and help defining the different levels of introgression between marble and brown trout. Using an introgression indexas proposed by Penserini et al. (2006), but modified for this study, based on the combination of mitochondrial haplotypes and nuclearalleles, individuals with different level of hybridization were identified. Pure marmoratus lineage was represented by 71% of the samplesanalyzed in this study, the remaining being hybrids, quite common because of the massive introduction of non-native brown trout forangling purposes.
