Abstract

Responses to low-efficiency visual targets are improved by task-irrelevant simultaneous sounds, better if congruent. The multisensory enhancement effect and the congruency effect were obtained in an implicit task, in which participants were not required to evaluate the properties of targets and other inattended stimuli, but should simply detect relevant events in the designated modality.
