Abstract del poster presentato al Congresso "J.Med.C.A.T.'97 - Jornades Mediterranees de Calorimetria i Analisi Termica", Palma de Mallorca (E), 24-28 giugno 1997 - The enhanced interest of chemical industry in applications involving polymers is due to the availability of well-established and characterized specialty chemicals. Since most of the commercial polymer is produced and characterised in solution, the determination of the solubility of a solvent in the presence of a polymer is undoubtedly of interest from an industrial point of view. In fact the knowledge of such data is important both in polymer manufacturing, allowing better choice among alternative processes and optimising plant operations, and in the devolatilization of a polymer (removal any trace of volatile solvent from the polymer). In the same time different theories related to phase equilibrium modeling for polymer have been developed. Polyvinylpyrrolidone is a polymer widely used in pharmaceutical and chemical formulations, in cosmetics, in paper and texile processes since it is physically and chemically inert. Weight activity coefficients at infinte dilution of different solutes at various temperatures in linear PVP are reported and discussed. Models based on group contribution are used for the correlation. The influence of molecular weight and structure of the polymers are taken in account and discussed.
