In the context of the Nielsen realization problem for finite groups of mapping classes of surfaces, we prove that a finite extension of athe fundamental group of a closed surface, with solvable factor group, or of a Fuchsian group with torsion is again isomorphic to a Fuchsian or noneuclidean crystallographic group.
