Studied the relationship between arousal level and short-term memory of odors. Human Ss: 75 male and female Italian adults (aged 20–28 yrs) (university students). Ss were divided into 3 groups. Ss were asked to smell and subsequently recall the odors of 9 familiar fruits. One group smelled the fruits in the presence of white noise (80 db), 1 group recalled the fruit smells in the presence of white noise, and the control group was not exposed to white noise. The results were evaluated according to number of correct responses. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) and other statistical tests were used.
