The paper sheds light on the epilinguistic discourse on germanisms in the metropolitan dialect of Zagreb. The empirical study is based on two methods: 1) the qualitative analysis of the internet Forum discussion on what the dialect of Zagreb is, what the germanisms “purger” and “purgerski” mean, to what extent germanisms and elements from other languages should be used and why they are used; 2) the written questionnaire assessing the self-perception of the use of germanisms. The results of both inquiries are compared and contrasted in order to gain a more complete picture of language attitudes and language use in a given situation and the way of expressing them in the epilinguistic discourse.
