The paper presents a short theoretical overview of the specifics of high-tech SMEs, their financing needs and challenges, and the reasons for the so called financing gap of high-tech SMEs in Slovenia. It outlines the importance of the institutional and support environment in Slovenia, challenges its efficiency, and in the spirit of development financing provides a series of recommendations for policy makers.
