The drug mass balance, performed on the entire human body, allows building up mathematical models able to account for the simultaneous processes of in vivo drug release kinetics and ADME steps (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Elimination) that determine the drug pharmacokinetics (PK). As this approach holds whatever the administration route and the delivery system considered, it could play a paramount role in the development of personalized medicine.

Abstract
