In 2010–13 the rare Viola jordanii was found in some new sites of the Karst area of northeast Italy. The species was previously known in Italy only from the neighbouring areas of the boundaries with France, in Liguria, northwest Italy. The new finding is interesting from floristic, phytogeographical and conservation points of view. Results of extensive field work, literature investigations and revision of herbarium specimens undertaken to assess the occurrence of the species in its second known site in Italy are provided.
