Abstract
The war in Trieste, the port of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, started in 1914, and its residents were enrolled and sent to the Eastern Front in Galicia to fight against the Russian Empire. When Italy declared war on the Austrian Empire, another front is opened near the town, in the Karst. Many young people from Trieste cross clandestinely the border and join the Italian army. Among them, writers such as Scipio Slataper, Giani Stuparich, Giulio Camber Barni, who wrote about their experience before and during the war.
