Blunt abdominal trauma is a common presentation in the emergency unit and still remains a leading cause of death in children older than one year of age. The spleen is the most commonly injured but other solid organs or bowel may be interested, so evaluation of the injured child should follow the ABCs of trauma resuscitation. Actually, the hemodynamically unstable patient requires immediate operative intervention while conservative management is the standard of care in the hemodynamically stable patient. The paper suggests a systematic approach to evaluate children with suspected abdominal trauma.

Abstract
Blunt abdominal trauma is a common presentation in the emergency unit and still remains a leading cause of death in children older than one year of age. The spleen is the most commonly injured but other solid organs or bowel may be interested, so evaluation of the injured child should follow the ABCs of trauma resuscitation. Actually, the hemodynamically unstable patient requires immediate operative intervention while conservative management is the standard of care in the hemodynamically stable patient. The paper suggests a systematic approach to evaluate children with suspected abdominal trauma.File in questo prodotto:
