Based on recent progress in histologicaldiagnosis and prognostic stratification of cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma (cSCC), the implications of therapeutic managementrequire new national guidelines.These guidelines outlineall aspects of cSCC management,from the clinical and histologicaldiagnosis of primary tumorto the systemic treatment of the advanced or metastatic disease. Mucosal type of SCC(e.g. located either in thegenital or in the labial area)and cSCC of the head andneckregion willnot be considered. These guidelines will help Italianhealthcare providers in managingcSCC patients based on current standards of treatment and according to evidence based medicine.The reported data and therapies should be assessedwith cautionsincethe results deriving fromfuture studies mightchange the conclusions or recommendations reported in this text. Furthermore, depending onindividual patientsor specificcircumstances,deviationfrom these guidelines may be necessary. Adherence toTheseguidelines will not constitutedefence in the attempt to avoidany liability arising from professional negligence, as well as anydeviation does not.
