The paper offers the first Italian translation of the Greek preface by Adrien Tournebus to his Sophocles edition (1553). Reading afresh this text, one can appreciate the hitherto undervalued turning point in the philological method of the Breton humanist, originated by his approach to a Sophoclean manuscript (Paris. Abstract

Gr. 2711) drawn up according to Triclinius’ editorial technique and provided with his metrical scholia.
