Objectives: The purpose of this paper is to provide an update on the pharmacological treatment of clinically common odontogenic infections, based on the recommendations of the scientific community. Materials and methods: The aim of the present course is to help clinicians in prescribing the correct antibiotic therapy of the different odontogenic infections they daily run into, with particular attention to special needs patients or to patients with specific comorbidities. Results and conclusions: If not diagnosed or properly managed, odontogenic infections may seriously affect the patient's health and, in a small number of cases, they can lead to the necessity of hospitalization. A correct diagnostic classification and a targeted and effective medical therapy are fundamental steps to forestall the onset of antibiotic resistances. In fact, these may increase the patient's morbidity and mortality as well as contribute to the medical therapy failure.
