In May 2013, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) republished - as expected - the guidelines on the assessment and initial management in febrile children younger than 5 years, six years after the first draft. The paper proposes them very briefly, emphasizing (few) major news and reporting once more the grids based on an intuitive traffic light system. Even now, support points for an easy and correct practice of daily emergencies - the small, the large or the invisibile ones - are not negligible and should be better spread and adopted in different care settings dedicated to the assessment and care of feverish children.

Abstract

In May 2013, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) republished - as expected - the guidelines on the assessment and initial management in febrile children younger than 5 years, six years after the first draft. The paper proposes them very briefly, emphasizing (few) major news and reporting once more the grids based on an intuitive traffic light system. Even now, support points for an easy and correct practice of daily emergencies - the small, the large or the invisibile ones - are not negligible and should be better spread and adopted in different care settings dedicated to the assessment and care of feverish children.
