Relying on research recently carried out within the “Common Core of European Private Law” project, the paper investigates some assumptions about causation that, in spite of European tort laws’ variety, are widely shared in European domestic and comparative legal thinking, and attempts to shed light on the interrelationships between European jurisdictions' legal culture and their attitude to causation problems.
