EDITORIALIt is with great pleasure that we launch the new ESPENe-journal ‘‘e-SPEN, the European e-Journal of ClinicalNutrition and Metabolism’’, to be known ase-SPENJournal.This journal is a new electronic only companion publicationtoClinical Nutrition, the official journal of The EuropeanSociety for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN).During the past years, many online-only journals havebeen launched to increase the spread of scientific knowl-edge among a larger public, with easy access for investiga-tors and more rapid publication of new data. Moreover,nutrition, nutritional care and metabolism have gained wideclinical and scientific interest during the past decades. Thisis also demonstrated by the increasing interest in nutritionaleducation; people from all over the world now join theyearly ESPEN courses on clinical nutrition as well as therecently launched ESPEN LLL trainings for medical doctors.In addition, the increasing amount of papers submitted toClinical Nutritionwarranted the launch of a new journal tospread interesting scientific nutritional knowledge amongthe world. For ESPEN, these were major reasons to launch anew journal.e-SPEN Journalwill be available to all members of ESPENand to all subscribers toClinical Nutrition. Publishedbimonthly,e-SPEN Journalwill focus on publishing articles,which address the educational aspects of nutritional andmetabolic care and the relationship between nutrition anddisease in the setting of basic science and clinical practice.The journal will also publish papers, which have not met thecriteria required for publication inClinical Nutrition, butnevertheless have an important message to convey to theESPEN members and other readers.
