Einfache Sprache in der Praxis: ein empirischer Blick auf die Modalitäten der Satzverknüpfung

The focus of this article is the question of how recommendations on syntax for Einfache Sprache are implemented in practice. This question seems particularly important in view of the less strict standardisation of Einfache Sprache (Bredel/Maaß 2016a), which implies a relatively large amount of leeway for concrete language and translation work, in comparison with Leichte Sprache. The article presents the results of an exploratory study as a step towards a more comprehensive empirical investigation of Einfache Sprache. The exploratory study was carried out using a corpus consisting of news texts and dictionary articles from the website nachrichtenleicht.de. The focus is on connectivity: special attention is paid to the use of sentence connectors (especially subordinating conjunctions) and the relationships between connectors.
