The legal regime of the citizenship in multicultural contexts highlights the adaptations to different understandings of the connection between the State and the cultural–as well as legal–pluralism. The development of India’s citizenship legislation is a clear example of a peculiar “multicultural approach” through this legal tool. In the light of these reflections, this essay is a critical investigation on the citizenship in India, made through the analysis of the constitutional system and the legislation from the Citizenship Act of 1955 to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act of 2019.

Abstract
The legal regime of the citizenship in multicultural contexts highlights the adaptations to different understandings of the connection between the State and the cultural–as well as legal–pluralism. The development of India’s citizenship legislation is a clear example of a peculiar “multicultural approach” through this legal tool. In the light of these reflections, this essay is a critical investigation on the citizenship in India, made through the analysis of the constitutional system and the legislation from the Citizenship Act of 1955 to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act of 2019.File in questo prodotto:
