This article is intended to contribute to the question of perception, creation and translation of comic book as a genre in the heterogenous world of the Slavic countries. The main focus lies on the comic Alan Ford, an example of success of an Italian comic book translated into Croatian. Alan Ford was read and loved in different republics of the former Yugoslavia where it achieved cult status and continues to enjoy it even after the decline of the country: the attachment to Alan Ford, the feeling of connection to other readers or “connoisseurs” still form a linguistic and cultural bond. The article explores various hypothesis on the factors of this success.
